31st Engineer Battalion soldiers from Maine pose with their state flag in Vietnam. The flag project was the brainchild of John Frye. State governors were contacted and asked to send the state flag to Vietnam. Most complied. The soldiers from each state would pose with their flag. The flag project helped boost morale, reminded the soldiers of home and cultivated a sense of pride in where they came from.
